Geo-mapping for Energy
The energy component of the Geo-mapping for Energy and Minerals (GEM) program will be delivered via six projects.
Baffin Bay Sedimentary Basins
Hudson / Foxe Sedimentary Basins
Mackenzie Delta Corridor
Sverdrup Sedimentary Basin
Uranium
Yukon Sedimentary Basins
These projects are designed to provide the detailed geological framework needed to evaluate energy resource potential; supported by maps that indicate the major geological factors controlling the distribution of potential resources.
New framework geoscience is being undertaken by multidisciplinary teams, and includes airborne geophysical studies, fieldwork, seismic interpretation, studies of subsurface materials such as old industry core and cuttings, and petroleum systems analysis.
Data will be compiled into publicly available databases that will be available in a timely fashion.
Territorial geoscience agencies have been extensively consulted in defining the activities within each project and will be partners in carrying them out.
