Multiple Metals: Southeast Yukon
The scientific research and results of this project are available via GEOSCAN.
Previously mapped in 1968, the Coal River map area of SE Yukon is one of the least understood parts of the Selwyn basin, known elsewhere for its sedimentary lead-zinc deposits and intrusion-related tungsten, molybdenum, gold, uranium and rare-earth-element potential. Both SEDEX and replacement-type (Irish) Pb-Zn mineralization may be present in late Cambrian through late Devonian strata. A suite of mid-Cretaceous bodies have associated porphyry, skarn and vein style mineralization. A collaborative GEM-Yukon Geological Survey team is upgrading the geoscience knowledge base through activities including an airborne geophysical survey of the Flat River area and helicopter-supported, on-the-ground mapping of bedrock and surficial materials.
