CURRENT S&T / RESEARCH – Using satellite remote sensing and geospatial data, detecting land cover changes and its impacts in the Canadian north.

  • Habitat indicators for migratory tundra caribou under a changing climate, under the auspices of the CircumArctic Rangifer Monitoring and Assessment network (CARMA).  Wenjun’s research focuses on the Bathurst caribou herd and the Porcupine caribou herd.
  • Climate impacts on Canadian Arctic Tundra Ecosystems: Interdisciplinary and Multi-scale Assessments (CiCAT), one of Canadian International Polar Year (IPY) projects. In addition to being a lead on the vegetation mapping and change detection theme, Wenjun’s main research interests focus on seasonal and long-term changes of arctic tundra ecosystems detected using satellite remote sensing time series and ground measurements
  • ParkSPACE, a joint project with Parks Canada Agency and financially supported by the Government Research Initiative Program (GRIP) of Canadian Space Agency. In addition to being the CCRS lead on this project, Wenjun’s interests in this project include the development of operational protocols for monitoring changes in plant growth, phenology, wetland extents, and permafrost dynamics on northern national parks.
