Data Production Activities

Update the data of the Geospatial Data Base "BDG" (MAJBDG Project)

Objective: Update data from the Geospatial Data Base (GDB) using SPOT 4&5 or Landsat7 orthoimages.

Qualification requirements

A qualification is a prerequisite for this work and is neither subject to payment nor reimbursement. The qualification process consists to update four datasets in accordance with the effective acquisition specifications and the contracting out standard.

Twelve weeks are allocated from the signature of the contract to complete the qualification contract to the CTIS satisfaction.

The CTIS accepts to qualify firms from April 1st to September 30th.

Note: The CTIS recommends strongly reading and understanding the acquisition specifications using the demo datasets before starting a qualification.

Production of National Hydro Network (NHN) Data

Objective: Complete the first national coverage in NHN data, using Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan) digital topographic data, in compliance with the "National Hydro Network, Canada, Level 1, Edition 1.0" Standard. Then, gradually replace this first NHN national data coverage by current data, of better resolution and more recent data or of higher NHN completeness level data.

Data updates of NHN source data is carried-out via the GDB Update project (see description above) or via partnership agreements with interested provincial and territorial governments. The use of updated source data in the generation of NHN data generally improves their completeness level. The CTI-S is also implementing an NHN regeneration process to produce data compliant with the NHN Completeness Level 3.

Provincial and territorial partners who whish to make their hydrographic data available on the GeoBase Web portal in compliance with the NHN Standard, may do so by producing directly their NHN data in compliance with the NHN model, or since early 2009, they may opt for an intermediate model named NHN-Hybrid. Once the data compliant with the NHN-Hybrid model, CTI-S has the responsibility to generate the final NHN data and publish it on the GeoBase Web Portal.

Documentation describing the official NHN Standard as well as good data coverage are available on the GeoBase Portal under the National Hydro Network section. Then refer to the Description/Documentation and Data/Download sub-sections.

The contracted-out work scheduled for 2012-13 is estimated at 20 NHN Working Units (watersheds). A budget of approximately 40 000.00$ is allocated for this production.

Qualification: The MAJBDG qualification is required to obtain National Hydrographic Network data production contracts.
