GSC Atlantic partnerships facilitate sharing of expertise and resources for project delivery in response to our clients' needs for marine geoscience information and knowledge. Joint ventures include projects with:



  • other divisions of the Geological Survey of Canada
  • universities and research institutes in Canada and abroad
  • other federal government departments
  • provincial government agencies
  • international agencies
  • resource and environmental industries
  • engineering and technology companies

GSC Atlantic's research contributes to a wide variety of marine geoscience issues through new and archived data, state-of-the-art concepts and practices, and technology development.


The Geological Survey of Canada (Atlantic) Developing Roles


GSC Atlantic's roles arise from changes in the goals of government - sponsored research towards:

  • a focus of research in the solution of resource and environmental problems
  • an increase of joint ventures with industry for project delivery and technology development, under cost-shared arrangements
  • an expanding international role in the provision of marine geoscience expertise
  • the initiation of multi-institutional/multi-disciplinary, cost-shared research projects
