Boundaries - Aboriginal Lands
The SGB provides surveying and related geomatics support to the First Nations self government process. Surveys of land claims are done to ensure jurisdictional boundaries are well defined and uncertainties eliminated to support sustainable development for communities. The SGB has a long history of working in direct partnership with First Nation communities in all parts of Canada to ensure adequate boundaries are maintained.
The SGB operates the Canada Lands Survey System to provide the infrastructure for individual land holdings to be surveyed and enable land transfers as needed. The SGB works in partnership with the various land registries that record the land transfers on various types of Aboriginal land holdings to ensure suitable survey products are readily available for the use of all interested parties.
