New query tool provides various formats and improved results
As of June 14, 2011, both the GeoNames Query and Web Services (here on the left menu) have been upgraded to improve response time, and to provide additional options for name searches and result formatting.
The tools now integrate the functionality of the Geographical Names Search Service (GNSS) at http://gnss.nrcan.gc.ca/gnss-srt/searchName.jsp?language=en for better, faster and more customizable searches. Please note that the GNSS Web site will close in September 2011 since the Geonames Web site includes all its functionalities and more.
