Natural Resources Canada monitors the extent and state of Canada's forests over time, uses the information to fulfill Canada's national and international reporting commitments, and shares this information with Canadians.

In Canada, when it comes to classifying forest land, the system that has been used in the past and is still used today divides the territory into forest regions.
Forest Fire Maps - Canadian Forest Service
A computer-based fire management information system that monitors fire danger conditions across Canada. Daily weather conditions are collected from across Canada and used to produce fire weather and fire behavior maps. In addition, satellites are used to detect fires.
Forest Studied and Protected
Two maps show the location and distribution of the model forest network and all the protected areas established in Canada.
Forests and People
The two maps in this theme compare the location of the forests in relation to the population total distribution of Canada in 1996, and specifically the relationship to the distribution of the Aboriginal population.
Forests and the Economy
Forests are an important source of income in remote areas where job opportunities are rare. In 1999, there were 12 348 forest related companies contributing 352 800 direct jobs to Canada's economy.
