Geological Maps
In 1842, the Geological Survey of Canada, Natural Resources Canada, began a geological survey that, with the constant development of new scientific concepts and technological changes, continues today.
- A-series Maps
- Complex geological maps which may be accompanied by GIS data These are final, edited maps -- georeferenced interpretation and selected data from a science project in any part of the Earth Sciences Sector. Select “advanced search”.
- Digital Geoscience Maps
- The Geological Survey of Canada has published about 400 maps digitally. The geological polygons for approximately 250 of these maps are currently being made available to find, preview, and download as ESRI shape files through this map search tool.
- Geological Map of Canada - 1996
- This CD-ROM has been created as a companion to the 1996 printed Geological Map of Canada (Map 1860A). The CD-ROM contains a complete bilingual GIS spatial database from which a variety of thematic geological maps can be created.
- MIRAGE - Map Image Rendering DAtabase for GEoscience
- The GSC has published thousands of maps since the mid-1800's. More than 10,000 of these maps have been scanned and are available.
- Open Files
- Open Files can be maps; reports; voluminous data sets resulting from multiparameter geophysical and geochemical surveys; consultants' reports; preliminary, unvetted field and laboratory results.
- Surficial Materials of Canada Map - 1995
- This map shows the distribution of surficial materials in Canada, on land and in extensive offshore areas, at 1:5 000 000 scale.
