Who can apply Principal investigators planning to conduct fieldwork in the Canadian Arctic are invited to apply for PCSP logistical support by submitting a PCSP Logistics Request Form online. Depending on when and where you are conducting your field operations, logistical support requests may include airplane and/or helicopter use, fuel, accommodation for your field party, and/or loan of field and communications equipment.
At the newly-expanded PCSP Resolute facility, the PCSP can accommodate researchers who are in transit to and from field camps or who are working in the Resolute area. The facility also has a new, modern laboratory. The Dr. Roy M. "Fritz" Koerner Laboratory is available for use by researchers at the PCSP Resolute Facility. For further details, please see the PCSP Resolute Facility web page.
Timeline The PCSP Logistics Request Form submission deadline is in early November each year. Information from all submitted forms is compiled by the PCSP. In December, the PCSP Science Screening Committee evaluates all foreign and non-government applications and presents the PCSP with its recommendations. The PCSP reserves the right to make final decisions concerning logistical support based on resource availability and logistics feasibility. Applicants are informed about the level of logistical support available to their projects from the PCSP through a Letter of Decision to each principal investigator, provided in spring.
Canadian Arctic-Antarctic Exchange Program The Canadian Arctic-Antarctic Exchange Program is designed to encourage collaboration between Canadian Arctic scientists and non-Canadian scientists working in the Antarctic. Participants who wish to apply under this program must note this where asked in the PCSP Logistics Request Form and submit extra required information within the application.
Traditional Knowledge Program The PCSP has developed a Traditional Knowledge Program that offers logistical support services designed for the needs of projects focused on Traditional Knowledge and developed by or with Arctic communities, in order to meet community needs. Individuals or groups who wish to apply to the PCSP under this program must make note of this where asked in the PCSP Logistics Request Form and submit extra details in their application, including identifying what community support has been arranged and how the project’s results will be communicated to the public and made available to the community involved.
Licences & Permits Researchers are responsible for ensuring that they have all the necessary licences and permits to conduct their field work in the Canadian Arctic. The PCSP cannot put any parties into the field if we have not received a copy of all pertinent documentation.
Required Documentation All applicants must complete the PCSP Logistics Request Form and every application submitted must include a project description. Each project description must touch on the research problem, the project objectives and methods to be used. If support was given in a previous year, a progress report of results achieved to date must be included.
University applications All university researchers who apply for PCSP logistical support must identify student involvement and include a list of peer-reviewed publications for the past five years in their PCSP Logistics Request Form.
