Applied Research for Buildings

Natural Resources Canada generates and provides knowledge and technologies to advance the development and use of innovative solutions that contribute to the well-being of Canadians and to progress toward meeting Canada’s economic, social and environmental policy objectives. We work with industry, academia, utilities, associations, non-governmental organizations, and other governments to develop and demonstrate energy-efficient technologies and practices, as well as renewable energy technologies for buildings.

We are active in conceiving, developing and optimizing energy energy-efficient space and water heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration technologies, heat pumps, solar photovoltaic energy technologies, thermal storage systems and micro cogeneration systems.

Our vision of the operation of buildings consists of buildings that are operated in a manner that optimizes energy performance while improving a healthy and comfortable environment for occupants.
