Some Canadian SmartWay Partners may find the United States’ Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay Technology Program useful. This program develops test protocols, reviews strategies and verifies the performance of vehicles, technologies and equipment that have the potential to reduce greenhouse gases and other air pollutants from freight transport.
The EPA’s SmartWay Technology Program (independent from Natural Resources Canada) has created a list of technologies that provide fuel saving and/or emission-reducing benefits when used properly in their designed applications. This list is updated on an ongoing basis and is republished on SmartWay Canada’s website in English and French on an ongoing basis.
The EPA’s SmartWay Technology Program provides information on:
- Aerodynamic Technologies
- EPA-designated SmartWay Tractors
- EPA-designated SmartWay Trailers
- Idle Reduction Technologies
- Low Rolling Resistance Tires and Retreads
- Retrofit Technologies
It is important to note that some fuel saving technologies listed on these pages do not comply with Canadian regulations. Always consult with provincial/territorial authorities before purchasing and compare products, services, and prices before making your purchase.
