EV Charging Stations across Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) – Ontario and Manitoba

Lead Proponent:   eCAMION
Location:  Ontario and Manitoba
EIP Contribution:  $ 3,554,618 M
Project Total: $ 11,301,200 M
Strategic Area:  Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Demonstrations
Project Status: Completed

Project Objectives:

The objective of this project was to demonstrate an electric vehicle fast charging network across the Trans-Canada Highway that can serve rural areas with low-power grid connections.  The network originally planned 34 stations, each with three charging heads, connecting Ontario to the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border along the TCH. The project was scaled down to demonstrate a network of 4 direct current fast charging (DCFC) stations along the Trans-Canada Highway.

Results:

The outcome of this Project is the reduction of Canada’s GHG emissions by demonstrating infrastructure that enables the wide-spread adoption of electric vehicles.

The direct current charging stations have demonstrated the convenient and long-distance travel of electric vehicles for Canadians in underserved rural areas, and in locations that lack the electrical infrastructure typically required for fast charging stations.

It is hoped that this demonstration will lead to further EV station connections across the TCH.
