Research Engineer and Building Project Leader

Michel Tardif has a Bachelor of Applied Science, Engineering from Université Laval and a Bachelor of Psychology and Anthropology also from Université Laval.

Mr. Michel Tardif has occupied the position of Research Engineer in the Buildings and Renewables Group at Natural Resources Canada’s CanmetENERGY Ottawa Research and Development Division since 2001. He leads the research group’s activities, which focus mainly on developing the integrated design process, optimizing the performance of layered systems and integrating passive energy efficiency measures, all of which are part of the vision for a net-zero energy building.

With more than 26 years of experience as an engineer, Mr. Tardif began as an engineering consultant and a mechanical designer (HVAC) and quickly became interested in energy efficiency. He has worked in this area as team leader of a number of energy efficiency projects. He has also worked on international projects in North Africa and on Annex 52 - Task 40 (Net-Zero Solar Energy Buildings) of the International Energy Agency’s Solar Heating Program. He is a member of ASHRAE and Chair of the Integrated Building Design Technical Committee (TC7.1).
