Sustainable Oil and Gas

Oil and natural gas account for most of the energy consumed in Canada. While the Government of Canada is committed to developing alternative fuels and renewable energy, it also wants to ensure the sustainable development of our important oil and gas reserves.

The Office of Energy R&D funds R&D for the continued, secure supply of affordable and cleaner bitumen, oil and gas, with little or no adverse environmental impacts on air and water, and to develop new knowledge and advance technologies in aid of regulatory development, codes and standards and public good to ensure safety and security of energy supply in Canada.

CanmetENERGY is the Canadian leader in clean energy research and technology development. It manages science and technology programs and services, supports the development of energy policy, codes and regulations, acts as a window to federal financing and works with partners to develop more energy efficient and cleaner technologies.
