Federal Programs and Funding
Three major programs are currently used as funding resources for energy science and technology in the federal government. One is the Program of Energy Research and Development (PERD). PERD is a continuing program that focuses on multiple priorities selected through consultation with participating federal recipients of funds.
Please note that PERD only provides funding to federal departments and agencies. It is not a general funding or grant program for companies, associations or individuals.
The ecoENERGY Innovation Initiative is a program that received $97 million in funding in Budget 2011, the Next Phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, for a comprehensive suite of research and development (R&D) and demonstration projects.
The Clean Energy Fund provides $795 million over five years for the demonstration of promising technologies.
These programs are managed by the Office of Energy Research and Development (OERD).
CanmetENERGY administers some repayable and cost-shared contract funding for projects that fall within its technology areas. Please click here for further information.
Homeowners and owners of small and medium-sized organizations can apply for grants and financial incentives from Natural Resources Canada’s Office of Energy Efficiency.
