This library holds Canada’s largest collection of books and serials in the earth sciences dating from the most current back to the early 18th century and is world-wide in scope. Subjects include environmental science, geochemistry, geochronology, hydrogeology, mineral resources, mineralogy, natural hazards, paleontology, petrology, seismology, solid earth geophysics, surficial geology and tectonics.

This library holds a number of special collections including the Map Collection with world-wide coverage in the field of earth sciences; books and serials pertaining to Canadian geography, cartography, geodetic and legal surveying, geographic information systems, global positioning systems, photogrammetry and remote sensing; Photo and Video collections; Book and Map Archives that houses several important collections (such as the Sir William Logan Collection); and the Circle of Nations Book Collection.
