Earthquake Monitoring

Economic Action Plan 2014 proposes to provide $11.4 million over five years to enhance the earthquake monitoring system to incorporate more advanced technologies that ensure robust alerting, and faster public alerts in high-risk and urban areas.

Earthquakes represent a significant threat to the safety and economic well-being of Canadians. Faster public earthquake alerts allow Canadians to take action to reduce earthquake damage and protect lives and infrastructure. The upgrade will replace national earthquake monitoring equipment that was installed over 20 years ago, enabling faster, more robust alerts.
