Government of Canada Investing in
Research and Development Infrastructure in Quebec
QUEBEC — The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Natural Resources, is in Quebec City today to highlight the progress being made with major infrastructure projects at two of Natural Resources Canada’s research centres in Quebec. These investments, totalling $4.6 million, are part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Maintenance work is underway at the Laurentian Forestry Centre (LFC) of the Canadian Forest Service (CFS) in Quebec City and at the CanmetENERGY Technology Centre in Varennes on the south shore of Montreal. These investments, costing $3 million and $1.6 million respectively, are being made to renovate and improve the existing lab facilities.
“The Laurentian Forestry Centre has been present in Quebec City for more than 50 years and plays a major role in the sustainable development of our forests,” said Minister Paradis. “As for the CanmetENERGY Technology Centre, it is a leader in clean energy technological research and development, and its centre for clean energy decision-making assistance, RETScreen International, is recognized worldwide. The work being done in those centres is evidence of our Government’s efforts to stimulate the economy in Canada and Quebec. The upgrade of our infrastructure here will contribute to maintaining high-quality standards for our country’s laboratories.”
