David Leith Biography
David Leith was Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of CIBC World Markets and Head of CIBC World Markets’ Investment, Corporate and Merchant Banking activities until February 2009.
With more than 25 years' experience at CIBC World Markets, Mr. Leith has extensive equity, debt, government finance and mergers and acquisitions experience. He has been actively involved in energy-related issues, including acting as financial advisor to the Province of Ontario on the restructuring of Ontario Hydro and advising the Manley Committee in its review of Ontario Power Generation’s nuclear operations. He joined the investing banking department of Wood Gundy in London, England in 1983. He became a Vice-President of the firm in 1986, and Vice-President and Director in 1988. In 1992, he moved to Toronto as Head of Government Finance, and in 1999 was appointed Head of Debt Origination in Debt Capital Markets. Mr. Leith assumed responsibility for CIBC World Markets Investment and Corporate Banking activities in 2004.
Mr. Leith holds degrees from the University of Toronto and Cambridge University.
Mr. Leith is a Director of Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. Mr. Leith is active in a number of charitable endeavours and is a Director of the Children’s Aid Foundation.
