Canada and Norway Promote Cooperation in Energy Resource Development

OTTAWA — The Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, and Mr. Ola Borten Moe, Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, today signed a joint statement on cooperation in the energy sector. The Ministers met this morning as part of Minister Borten Moe’s three-day visit to Canada.

“Canada and Norway share a commitment to develop our natural resources in a safe and sustainable manner,” said Minister Oliver. “Canadais a responsible and reliable partner in achieving a secure global energy supply, and we look forward to ongoing collaboration with our friends in Norway.”

 “Coming from an Arctic country, I am very happy to have this opportunity to visit Canada. Norway and Canada share common interests in many areas,” said Minister Borten Moe. “We are both significant producers of  oil and gas as well as hydroelectric power. We also both  have a stewardship role in protecting the uniqueness of the Arctic ecosystem.”

Ministers and officials from the two countries will regularly meet to share expertise and seek opportunities for collaboration in areas such as oil and gas, renewable energy and carbon capture and storage technology.
