Minister Oliver Promotes Responsible Resource Development for Major Energy Projects
Natural Resources Canada
OTTAWA — The Honourable Joe Oliver, Minister of Natural Resources, delivered an address today at the annual Manning Networking Conference in which he emphasized the economic importance of our natural resources and the need for smart regulation for major energy projects.
“Major projects in Canada are subject to long and potentially endless delays because of a needlessly complex and duplicative regulatory system. This is costing Canadians good, well-paying jobs,” said Minister Oliver. “That’s why our Government wants to streamline the regulatory system for major projects across Canada.”
The Minister highlighted how smart regulatory processes are essential in order for Canada to create jobs and to strengthen our economy. He stressed that managing Canada’s natural resources projects efficiently can generate great benefits for Canadians across the country.
“Our Government is focused on responsible development of Canada’s natural resources to create jobs and economic growth as well as future prosperity,” said Minister Oliver. “Our Government has taken great strides toward making our complex regulatory system more efficient, and we remain focused on our goal: one project, one review, in a clearly defined time period.”
The Government continues to work with industry to harness science and technology expertise aimed at ensuring economic stability and responsible development of Canada’s natural resources.
