Minister Oliver Announces Appointment of New Member to the National Energy Board

OTTAWA — The Honourable Joe Oliver, Minister of Natural Resources, today announced the appointment of James Ballem as a temporary member of the National Energy Board (NEB).
“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Ballem as a new member of the National Energy Board,” said Minister Oliver. “Mr. Ballem’s extensive knowledge of energy and environmental issues will be an asset to the Board as it continues to fulfil its mandate.”
Mr. Ballem joined the Prince Edward Island (PEI) provincial government as Minister of Health and Social Services and served as PEI’s Attorney General and Minister of Environment, Energy and Forestry. He has considerable experience in both the agriculture sector and the renewable energy sector. Mr. Ballem holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Prince Edward Island.
The NEB is an independent federal agency established by the Parliament of Canada to regulate international and interprovincial aspects of the oil, gas and electric utility industries. The NEB regulates pipelines, energy development and trade in the Canadian public interest.
