Statement on the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement by the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Natural Resources

OTTAWA — “We all have a responsibility to protect our natural riches as well as our recovering economy. This agreement shows a clear balance between our economic prosperity and our strong environmental standards.

“I am particularly pleased to see both parties’ commitment to improving prosperity in communities across Canada. A prosperous and sustainable forest industry is of vital importance to many rural communities across this country.

“I want to congratulate Canada’s forest industries and environmental organizations on sharing this Government’s commitment to cooperative, open dialogue and the principles of sustainable resource development.

“We know economic competitiveness includes leadership on the environment, and this historic agreement and joint leadership in Canada’s boreal forest does exactly that.”
