Ottawa’s Hunt Club Estates Becomes the City’s First
Townhouse and Condo Facility to Soak Up the Sun!

OTTAWA — Ottawa’s Hunt Club Estates is the first townhouse and condo facility in Ottawa to make the switch to solar heating technologies. The Government of Canada’s ecoENERGY for Renewable Heat Program has invested $312,500 to Sustainable Ottawa’s Solar H2Ottawa program which is providing over $26,000 to Hunt Club Estates’ solar thermal system project. The first phase of this project will consist of 22 solar thermal domestic hot-water units.

“Our government is proud to support community projects through the ecoENERGY for Renewable Heat Program, encouraging the application of residential solar water heaters in Ottawa and across Canada,” said Royal Galipeau, Member of Parliament for Ottawa–Orleans. “This project is a shining example of our government’s commitment to ensuring that clean, renewable power from the sun, wind and oceans will form an increasingly important part of our future energy mix.”

“This is the type of project that can be used as a showcase not just for Ottawa but the rest of the country,” noted Sustainable Ottawa President Rock Radovan. “Solar H2Ottawa is meant to help spur the adoption of solar energy, and almost 100 people have already helped make our project a success.”

Solar water heating systems can supply up to 60 percent of the hot-water needs in a Canadian home, cutting ongoing energy and water heating costs and reducing each household’s annual greenhouse gas emissions by one tonne.

The Government of Canada’s $36-million ecoENERGY for Renewable Heat program is one of a series of initiatives funded by the Government of Canada with an investment of $4.2 billion to increase Canada's supply of clean, renewable energy.
