Regulation on Restricted Components

Information for Vendors of Ammonium Nitrate

Effective June 1, 2008, if you manufacture, import, export, purchase, provide or distribute for sale any amount of AN in solid form (i.e. 80 percent or more of AN or 28 percent or more of nitrogen), you must comply with NRCan’s Restricted Components Regulations by:

  • enrolling with ERD to ensure that you are listed as an authorized seller of AN
  • taking security measures to protect your AN supply and all related documentation from theft and unauthorized access
  • requesting from customers proper identification (e.g. government photo ID) and intent for purchasing the AN
  • informing your end users and your transporters about how to protect their AN from theft
  • providing the ERD Chief of Inspectors with annual inventory reports
