CANMET-MTL Wins 2011 Urban Design and Architecture Award from City of Hamilton for Excellence in Architecture and Sustainability
As the second building in McMaster Innovation Park on Longwood Road South, the CANMET Materials Technology Laboratory (CANMET-MTL) recently strengthened its position in the steel and manufacturing sectors. The building was awarded the 2011 Urban Design and Architecture Award of Excellence in Architecture and Sustainability in recognition of its excellent integration of a number of technologies and expert balancing of these technologies to create a meaningful edifice that celebrates the industrial heritage of its site.
High-Tech High-Pressure Die Caster Arrives at CANMET-MTL
CANMET-MTL received its 1200-ton high-pressure die casting equipment from BuhlerPrince in November 2011. The equipment is capable of producing high-integrity components from aluminum and magnesium alloys for automotive applications.
Regulatory Barrier Identification and Analysis – Green Mining
The Green Mining Initiative (GMI), under the collaborative leadership of Natural Resources Canada, was launched in 2009 to accelerate the research, development and deployment of green mining technologies to respond to new competitive challenges and to secure social licence to operate in Canada and abroad. The GMI was endorsed by federal, provincial and territorial mines ministers at the Energy and Mines Ministers’ Conference.
