Frontier Energy Pipelines
This research activity area identifies the required properties of steels and other materials that are planned for use in new pipelines in Canada’s frontier regions, primarily the North. When constructed, the pipelines must provide reliable performance for the lifetime that is required; that is, the steel and the welds must have the required strength and fracture resistance, and the fracture and corrosion control plans must be adequate to ensure long-term integrity, public safety, and environmental protection.
