Integrity Management

The integrity of pipelines is maintained by managing the risk of operating pipelines. Risk management has two components: risk assessment and risk control. Guidelines for Risk Assessment of Pipelines are provided in CSA Z662-99: Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems: Appendix B (non-mandatory part of the Standard). The existing risk in a given pipeline is assessed by several methods, including corrosion monitoring, in-line inspection, and the development of modeling based on field experience and literature data. The risk control tools include coatings, cathodic protection and corrosion inhibitors.

The objective of the PICon/Integrity Management section is to help in the evaluation of a generic integrity management program across the industry. Please let PICon know your ideas, suggestions and thoughts on issues related to pipeline integrity management.

PICon organizes an online journal. The schedule and papers published by the Journal are available at PICon Journal.
