The Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Certifying Agency
Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) manages Canada's nation-wide program for the certification of individuals performing non-destructive testing. The NDT Certifying Agency, through CanmetMATERIALS, certifies individuals as part of the NDT Personnel Certification Program according to the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) Standard CAN/CGSB-48.9712-2006 (Qualification and Certification of Non-Destructive Testing Personnel). The CGSB Standard and the NRCan certification procedure comply with the requirements of International Standard ISO-9712:2005 and European Standard EN-473:2000.
NRCan examinations that lead to the issuance of internationally accepted certificates of competence are available at a number of test centres located in various parts of Canada.
This certification program is managed at the federal level in order to provide the unbiased Canada-wide services required to implement a national program. To ensure that this objective is met, an Advisory Committee composed of individuals knowledgeable about NDT in Canada advises NRCan on the operation of this program.
The NDT Certifying Agency also serves as the qualifying body for the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC)'s Certification of Exposure Device Operators (EDO) examination. The CNSC's EDO examination is conducted in the same manner as other NDT certification examinations, using the same network of test centres.
