How to Register for Examinations

A. How to Register for Written Examination

With examinations on demand, each eligible NDT candidate (one that has made application and has been issued an examination admittance and registration form from the NDT Certifying Agency) will have the option to arrange and complete written examinations at either an Approved Test Centre or a Special Test Centre.

Approved Test Centres

These examination centres have an inventory of examination papers, similar to the Ottawa test centre, and once an NDT candidate has been registered for examination and issued an examination admittance and registration form, he/she may contact the approved test centre of his/her choice to arrange an examination date convenient to both the candidate and the test centre.

Special Test Centres

The special test centres provide an option for the NDT candidate when, due to location, access to an approved test centre is not practical or feasible. Acceptable testing facilities are community colleges, schools or government organizations.

Once the NDT candidate has received an examination admittance and registration form, he/she must establish with a chosen test centre an examination date. The NDT Certifying Agency must receive written notification at least two weeks prior to the testing date. Requests must include:

  • proposed examination date;
  • examinations to be attempted;
  • name and address of special test centre;
  • supervisor name and telephone number.

Providing the registration deadline is met and the test centre meets the NDT Certifying Agency's criteria for a testing facility, the appropriate examination(s) will be sent to the test centre.

Written Re-Examination

An NDT candidate for re-examination must submit a written request complete with the applicable written registration fee. Following approval, the NDT candidate will be issued an admittance and registration form to arrange for examination.
For re-examination, the NDT candidate will not be required to re-submit certain documentation (i.e., training, education, eye examination report, etc.) as this information would be on file.
Requests for re-examination may be sent by mail or facsimile.

Each eligible NDT candidate will be provided with a letter confirming his/her eligibility for written and/or practical examination. The letter will be accompanied by an NDT examination admittance and registration form if the written registration fee has been paid to the Receiver General for Canada. Access to an examination centre will be denied if the NDT candidate fails to produce an examination admittance and registration form.

B.  How to Register for Practical Examination

To complete practical tests, an NDT candidate that has been registered for examination and issued a practical examination admittance and registration form will make his/her own arrangements with the practical test centre of his/her choice.

Practical Re-examination

An NDT candidate for practical re-examination must submit a written request, complete with the applicable practical registration fee. Following approval, the NDT candidate will be issued an admittance and registration form to arrange for examination.

Access to an examination centre will be denied if the NDT candidate fails to produce a practical examination admittance and registration form.
