Vision Requirements

Vision Requirements (All Levels) - Eye Examination

The candidate shall provide documented evidence of satisfactory vision, as determined by an ophthalmologist, optometrist, physician, nurse or other recognized medical professional, in accordance with the following requirements:

  1. Near Vision Acuity – shall permit reading Times Roman N4.5 (Jaeger number 2) or equivalent letters at not less than 30 cm with one or both eyes, either corrected or uncorrected.
  2. Colour Vision – shall be sufficient that the candidate can distinguish contrast between the colours used in the NDT method concerned as specified by the employer.
  3. Distance Vision Acutity – shall be equal to or better than Snellen Fraction 20/30 with one or both eyes, either corrected or uncorrected.
  4. Subsequent to certification, the tests of visual acuity shall be carried out annually and be verified by the employer or the responsible agency (see 5.5.3 of the CGSB Standard CAN/CGSB-48.9712-2006/ISO9712:2005).
