Natural Resource Canada’s Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy

Natural Resource Canada’s (NRCan) 2023 to 2027 Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy (DSDS) was tabled in Parliament on Thursday November 2, 2023. The 2023-27 DSDS supports the 2022-26 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS), which sets out the Government of Canada’s environmental sustainability goals, targets, and actions for three years. The DSDS outlines how NRCan contributes to the Government’s long-term goals in the FSDS by promoting the sustainable use of Canada’s natural resources.

NRCan’s 2023-27 DSDS also illustrates how the department supports Canada’s commitment to Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As per the Federal Sustainable Development Act, NRCan is required to update its DSDS through the Departmental Plan (DP) and to report on its progress in implementing the strategy,Footnote 1 on an annual basis.
