Solar Powered Shingles
Solar power. It’s an important energy source for the future.
Here at the Canadian Centre for Housing Technology, I have panels below me.
This is research that’s ongoing.
This is a new generation of product that will function like a roof membrane and also deliver power to the home owner.
It’s solar cells but in a different form than the older generation.
The older generation was a little bit limited. This new product will protect the roof and provide power at the same time.
Things like shadowing or distortion from clouds is also being studied.
Ways of overcoming that and making the best power, the most efficient at the least cost is the objective of this -- working with manufactures and testing real life products on a real life roof.
