Figure 1 - Electricity Generation in Canada (in terawatt hours)

The bar chart displays electricity generation in Canada from 2003 to 2010, in terawatt-hours (TWh). The bars of different heights indicate that generation was steadily growing from 569 TWh in 2003 to 619 TWh in 2008 and then declined to 589 TWh in 2010.

Figure 2 - Exports and Imports of Electricity (in terawatt hours)

The bar chart displays exports and imports of electricity in Canada from 2003 to 2011, in gigawatt-hours (GWh). Two sets of bars represent exports and imports accordingly. The blue bars of different heights indicate that exports were steadily growing from about 26,000 GWh in 2003 to almost 57,000 GWh in 2008 and then slightly declined to 51,000 GWh in 2011. Another set of green bars that represents electricity imports indicates that imports levels varied significantly over the 2003-2011 period with the overall decreasing trend from 23,600 GWh in 2003 to 14,400 GWh in 2011.

Figure 3 - Final Demand for Electricity, by Sector (in terawatt hours)

The area chart displays final demand for electricity in Canada by sector in 2005-2009, in gigawatt-hours (GWh). Total final demand slightly declines from 538,000 GWh in 2005 to 503,000 GWh in 2009. The blue-colour area that represents the industrial sector indicates that the sector share in final demand steadily decreases from 44% in 2005 to 37% in 2009. The green area shows that the residential sector share slightly increases over the 2005-2009 period from 28% to 32%. The purple area displays the growing share of the commercial/institutional sector: from 25% in 2005 to 29% in 2009.
