4.3.1

Reduce the Departmental vehicle fleet size by 40 per cent from
1995 figures and ensure, where technically and operationally possible,
that all new vehicles run on alternative transportation fuels, by
1998.

For SDS- Now and for the Future,
NRCan will develop and implement a revised Fleet Management Policy
to increase the efficiency of internal operations, and will develop
a strategy to promote alternative forms of transportation for Departmental
staff.

4.3.2

Reduce Departmental energy consumption by 18 per cent over 1993-94
levels, by 2000.

Demonstrates leadership through the reduction of greenhouse gas
emissions.

NRCan has committed to develop and implement strategies to increase
the efficiency of energy and resource use in NRCan operations, to
advance government-wide efforts to reduce consumption of primary
resources and production of undesirable emissions such as greenhouse
gases.

4.3.3

Reduce water consumption by 30% over 1994-95 levels, by 2000.

In addition to saving freshwater, an increasingly valuable resource,
strategies to reduce water consumption in NRCan facilities also
help to conserve the energy required for water treatment and distribution.

For SDS- Now and for the Future,
NRCan will develop and implement a water conservation strategy for
the department, as part of efforts to increase the efficiency of
internal operations.
