Meet Stéphane, a builder who just completed an ENERGY STAR® Certified Multifamily High-Rise building. And meet Mrs. COOK and the Morales family, who are both owners of new condos in Stéphane’s building. The five - year ENERGY STAR Multifamily High Rise Pilot Program for new construction is a certification program that recognizes Ontario buildings that meet specific program requirements and are designed to be at least 15% more energy–efficient than those built to meet the building energy code. Because their condos are in an ENERGY STAR certified building, Mrs. Cook and the Morales family enjoy better energy efficiency, save money and help protect the environment by generating fewer greenhouse gas emissions. And for builders like Stéphane, this means higher performance standards and property values.

What are the benefits to occupants and owners?

As an occupant

ENERGY STAR certified buildings are simply more comfortable and provide better indoor living. For example, there are fewer drafts due to better air sealing and high performance windows. Properly-sized HVAC systems ensure effective heating, cooling and ventilation in all parts of the living space.

Unit owners can enjoy higher resale values when they sell their units.

As a building owner

Being more energy-efficient can lead to financial savings now and in the future. ENERGY STAR certified buildings can be counted on to deliver what is claimed because they have been tested and verified by qualified professionals according to program standards.

ENERGY STAR Certification could increase building value and generate more income when compared to similar buildings. It can help lower operating costs and increase rental value and occupancy rates.

A traditional building can generate large amounts of greenhouse gases.

That’s why the Morales family decided to move into an ENERGY STAR® certified condo building.

They benefit from high energy efficiency, year-round comfort and peace of mind because the condo building has been certified by qualified professionals.

The family can also benefit from lower energy costs and a higher resale value, all the while helping to protect the environment.
