CanVec - Digital Topographic Vector Data

Topographic data of Canada - CanVec Series is a digital cartographic reference product of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). It originates from the best available data sources covering Canadian territory, offers quality topographical information in vector format, and complies with international geomatics standards. CanVec is a multi-source product coming mainly from the National Topographic Data Base (NTDB), the Mapping the North process conducted by the Canada Center for Mapping and Earth Observation (CCMEO), the Atlas of Canada data, the GeoBase initiative, and the data update using satellite imagery coverage (e.g. Landsat 7, Spot, Radarsat, etc.). Formats available: Shapefile, GML and FGDB.

National Hydro Network

National Hydro Network - NHN - GeoBase Series focuses on providing a quality geometric description and a set of basic attributes describing Canada's inland surface waters. It provides geospatial vector data describing hydrographic features such as lakes, reservoirs, rivers, streams, canals, islands, obstacles (e.g. waterfalls, rapids, rocks in water) and constructions (e.g. dams, wharves, dikes), as well as a linear drainage network and the toponymic information (geographical names) associated to hydrography. Formats available: FGDB, Shapefile and GML.

Canadian Digital Elevation Model (CDEM)

The Canadian Digital Elevation Model (CDEM) is part of Natural Resources Canada's altimetry system designed to better meet the users' needs for elevation data and products. The CDEM stems from the existing Canadian Digital Elevation Data (CDED). In these data, elevations can be either ground or reflective surface elevations. A CDEM mosaic can be obtained for a pre-defined or user-defined extent. The coverage and resolution of a mosaic varies according to latitude and to the extent of the requested area. Derived products such as slope, shaded relief and colour shaded relief maps can also be generated on demand. Format available: GeoTiff

Canadian Digital Surface Model (CDSM)

The Canadian Digital Surface Model (CDSM) is part of Natural Resources Canada's altimetry system designed to better meet the users' needs for elevation data and products. The 0.75-second (~20 m) CDSM consists of a derived product from the original 1-second (30 m) Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) digital surface model (DSM). In these data, the elevations are captured at the top of buildings, trees, structures, and other objects rather than at ground level. A CDSM mosaic can be obtained for a pre-defined or user-defined extent. The coverage and resolution of a mosaic varies according to the extent of the requested area. Derived products such as slope, shaded relief and colour shaded relief maps can also be generated on demand. Format available: GeoTiff

High Resolution Digital Elevation Model (HRDEM) - CanElevation Series

The product High Resolution Digital Elevation Model (HRDEM) is part of the CanElevation Series created in support to the National Elevation Strategy implemented by NRCan. It includes a Digital Terrain Model (DTM), a Digital Surface Model (DSM) and other derived data. For DTM datasets, derived data available are slope, aspect, shaded relief, color relief and color shaded relief maps and for DSM datasets, derived data available are shaded relief, color relief and color shaded relief maps. They are offered at a 1 m or 2 m resolution and projected to the UTM NAD83 (CSRS) coordinate system and the corresponding zones. Format available: GeoTiff

Toporama - Digital Topographic Raster Map

Toporama - Archived is a legacy product that is no longer supported since May 15, 2013. Toporama is a topographic reference product produced by NRCan using CanVec data at a scale of 1:50 000. Toporama displays this data in a representative (symbolic) manner allowing for easy identification. Format available: GeoTiff.

Digital topographic raster maps - Archived

The Digital topographic raster maps – Archived include the CanMatrix and CanTopo collections, is now a legacy product that is no longer maintained. Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan) topographic raster maps provide a representation of the topographic phenomena of the Canadian landmass.

Data Extraction Tool

The Data Extraction Tool allows the extraction and download of raster elevation and vector topographic data using a custom map extent. Both elevation and surface altimetry products can be extracted as derived products such as slope maps, shaded relief maps, color relief maps, color shaded relief maps, aspect maps, and elevation points. The web interface offers a dynamic map for pre-visualizing the information and to locate the area of interest. In order to allow the extraction of areas of variable extent, the elevation data are offered in different resolutions.

Index Maps of the National Topographic System of Canada

The Canadian National Topographic System of Canada , identifying these maps, is distributed according to map sheet area at 3 scales: 1:1 000 000, 1:250 000 and 1:50 000. Topographic maps produced by NRCan conform to the National Topographic System (NTS) of Canada. Formats available: Shapefile, KML, PDF and Tiff.

Atlas of Canada Maps

The Atlas of Canada is composed of hundreds of maps about Canada’s environment, society, economy and history. The archive includes the six editions of the Atlas, federal election, poster maps, wall maps at national and international scales and many others.

Canada Base Map Transportation (CBM-T)

The Canada Base Map Transportation (CBM-T) is an online web map service (WMS) that provides the user with a continuous interactive view of topographic data that covers the entire Canadian landmass. The CBM-T integrates the best and most up to date data from available sources and displays this data in a representative (symbolic) manner to allow for easy identification.
