Subject to the direction of the Minister of Natural Resources, the Surveyor General of Canada Lands has responsibility for the management of surveys on Canada Lands. This mandate drives two programs: Canada’s Survey Registry, which provides the standards for surveys, registration processes and the archive for legal survey documents; and Canada’s Survey Program, which delivers the legal surveys in support of Government of Canada priorities such as those for Aboriginal Lands.
The Surveyor General also serves as the Canadian Commissioner of the International Boundary Commission (IBC) and as the Canadian member of the tripartite Alberta-British Columbia Boundary Commission.
