The ENERGY STAR program distinguishes the highest performers in energy efficiency for recognized products with the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation.
The recognition criteria for ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2020 have been finalized. These criteria recognize the most efficient ENERGY STAR products in 2020 across 14 product categories. The proposed criteria for dehumidifiers will be released later this fall. Products that meet 2020 criteria will deliver significant savings over conventional products.
Final 2020 recognition criteria

- Refrigerator-Freezers and Freezers
- Clothes Dryers
- Clothes Washers
- Ceiling Fans
- Central Air Conditioners, Air Source Heat Pumps, and Geothermal Heat Pumps
- Ductless split air conditioners and heat pumps
- Room Air Conditioners - new in 2020
- Ventilating Fans
- Gas furnaces
- Computer Monitors
- Windows and sliding glass doors*
*Natural Resources Canada’s ENERGY STAR Most Efficient criteria for windows is available on NRCan’s website and will include sliding glass doors for 2020. NRCan’s certified products database is updated with qualified models as they are submitted.
ENERGY STAR certified products meeting these requirements and available for sale in the U.S. will be highlighted as ENERGY STAR Most Efficient beginning January 1, 2020 at www.energystar.gov/mostefficient.
The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2020 designation is intended for use at point-of-sale on point-of-purchase materials, product literature, and websites. It may not be factory-applied to products or product packaging.
