SmartWay Recognition

SmartWay Excellence Award

The SmartWay Excellence Awards program is the premier recognition program that honours exceptional environmental performance by companies in the SmartWay Transport Partnership. Winners of this award have the top environmental performance as demonstrated through their data submission. The awards winners are chosen in three categories :

  • The SmartWay Shipper Awards
  • The SmartWay Logistics Awards
  • The SmartWay Carrier Awards

SmartWay High Performers

Among hundreds of companies participating in the SmartWay partnership, the High Performers are a step ahead in meeting the challenges of sustainable goods movement and have achieved significant shipping and freight efficiencies that merit special attention.

SmartWay Excellence Award recognizes top environmental leadership

Winners of the shipper and logistics awards use the most fuel-efficient SmartWay carriers and have the best performance within either the “large” or “medium/small” mileage categories.

Carrier winners are selected from “large” and “medium/small” categories, and they are chosen based on their performance in 13 fleet categories:  truckload, less-than-truckload, refrigerated, package, specialized, expedited, tanker, flatbed, mixed, dray, heavy haul, auto-carrier, moving and multimodal freight operations.

The SmartWay Excellence Awards program gets underway in March each year. Awards are presented in the fall by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

2018 SmartWay Excellence Award Winners: Three Canadian Carriers are Honoured

Three Canadian companies were among 40 SmartWay truck carriers award winners honoured by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as industry leaders in supply chain environmental and energy efficiency.  These top performing SmartWay Partners had the lowest carbon dioxide and criteria emissions based on reports submitted in 2017.

The Canadian SmartWay Excellence Award recipients are members of the SmartWay Transport Partnership, a market-driven initiative that empowers businesses to move goods in the cleanest, most energy-efficient way possible.  SmartWay is a voluntary, free program that provides freight carriers with tools to track and measure their emissions to help them improve their fuel efficiency and reduce their emissions. They represent a diverse group of freight carriers – including companies with small and large fleets from different provinces and companies that won awards in different fleet categories.

The annual SmartWay Excellence Awards honours carriers, shippers and logistics partners for superior performance.  To be eligible for an award, companies in most categories are also required to provide qualitative data demonstrating how they have gone above and beyond the requirements of the program.

The SmartWay program is administered jointly by Natural Resources Canada and the U.S. EPA. The awards process is managed by the US EPA but recognizes top performers in both countries.

Recognition of partners as SmartWay Excellence awardees took place on October 29, 2018 at the American Trucking Association’s (ATA) Annual Management Conference and Exhibition which took place in Austin,Texas, where three Canadian carriers were honoured:
