Shamik holds a PhD in Process Metallurgy from McGill University. His expertise is in the field of iron and steel processing. He holds advanced knowledge of the application of physical and mathematical modelling techniques in the field of metallurgical processing operations. A professional member of the Association for Iron and Steel Technology. Shamik is also an advisor to the Process Metallurgy and Modelling Group, University of Toronto.
Currently Shamik is working in the field of injection of fuel in blast furnace iron making and was instrumental in building a new bench-scale test rig for fuel injection purposes. This is the only test unit available in North America that requires minimum cost and effort for operation.
Prior to joining at CanmetENERGY, he worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at McMaster University and worked in process modelling of electric arc furnace steelmaking. During his graduate studies, he worked in the area of physical and mathematical modelling of fluid flow in steelmaking continuous casting tundish. Shamik has more than ten years’ experience of industrial experience of blast furnace iron production in an integrated steel plant.
