ENERGY STAR®—saving time, energy and money

ENERGY STAR Canada makes green procurement easier in a number of ways. (See a full description at Making the business case.)
One of the most useful is the ENERGY STAR Simple Savings Calculator. This downloadable tool lets you compare as many as three ENERGY STAR certified models against a conventional model of the same product type.
As the example for displays in the table below illustrates, you can calculate:
- energy savings
- operating cost savings
- simple payback on investment
- greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions
- annual and product lifetime savings
The add-on ENERGY STAR Summary Calculator allows you to figure comparisons for a number of different product types in one spreadsheet.
Note: These ENERGY STAR calculators generate estimates of energy, cost and emissions savings using base energy prices and other factors that are developed from Government of Canada data and energy rates posted by provincial and territorial utilities. National average energy costs are calculated and used as the calculators’ default settings. Users can localize the settings by selecting a province or territory, or inputting their own data. All values are updated regularly.
