ENERGY STAR® Canada

Product awards

Organizations that manufacture, sell and/or promote ENERGY STAR certified products, that have signed a Participant Arrangement with ENERGY STAR Canada prior to September 1, 2017 and are in good standing may apply for the following awards:

Manufacturer of the Year / Product Brand Owner of the Year – recognizes a manufacturer / product brand owner (in each of the categories below) that has shown leadership and innovation in developing and marketing ENERGY STAR certified products and raising the profile of ENERGY STAR across Canada.

There is a Manufacturer / Product Brand Owner award for each of the following categories:

  • Appliances
  • Commercial Products
  • Electronics
  • Windows and Doors
  • Heating and Cooling Equipment
  • Lighting

Retailer of the Year – recognizes a retailer that has shown leadership and innovation in developing and marketing ENERGY STAR certified products and raising the profile of ENERGY STAR.

There is a Retailer of the Year award for each of the following categories:

  • Regional
  • National

Utility of the Year – recognizes a utility that has shown leadership and innovation in developing and marketing ENERGY STAR certified products and raising the profile of ENERGY STAR.

There is a Utility of the Year award for each of the following categories:

  • Provincial
  • Regional

Promoter of the Year – ENERGY STAR Most Efficient – recognizes an organization that has successfully manufactured, sold or promoted ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designated products. <

Advocate of the Year – recognizes an organization (e.g. government, non-governmental organization, sector or trade association, health care provider, housing authority, education institution) that has shown leadership and innovation in promoting ENERGY STAR certified products and raising the profile of ENERGY STAR within and/or outside their organization.

Promotional Campaign of the Year – recognizes an organization that has designed and delivered an exceptional promotional campaign (marketing or consumer education) that focussed on one or more ENERGY STAR certified products and/or ENERGY STAR in general.  

Organizations that partnered on a promotional campaign are encouraged to apply as a group.

Recruit of the Year – recognizes an organization that has been a Participant for 2 years or less and has shown leadership and innovation in promoting ENERGY STAR certified products and raising the profile of ENERGY STAR in Canada.

ENERGY STAR Canada will put forth nominations of organizations that have been active promoters of ENERGY STAR since January 2016.

Sustained Excellence – recognizes an organization that has maintained or surpassed its ENERGY STAR commitment and accomplishments of the previous year(s).

ENERGY STAR Canada will put forth nominations of organizations that have been active promoters of ENERGY STAR for at least five years.

New Homes awards

Awards for Builders

All builders that have signed an ENERGY STAR for New Homes Builder Licence Agreement prior to December 31, 2017 may apply for recognition. They must meet the criteria specified in each application.

Each new home builder award application will be assigned to one of the following categories for evaluation, based on number of homes built in 2017:

Small Builder of the Year: A single entity building (1-49) homes built in 2017

Mid-Size Builder of the Year: A single entity building (50-249) homes built in 2017

Large Builder or the Year: A single entity building (250 or more) homes built in 2017

There are two new awards for Builders

Builder of the Year—Promotional Excellence - recognizes a builder that has demonstrated an exceptional promotional campaign with the purpose of raising consumer awareness of ENERGY STAR certified homes.

Builder of the Year—Performance Excellence - recognizes a builder that has demonstrated excellence and best practices related to the ENERGY STAR for New Homes.

These two awards can be assigned to any builder who goes above and beyond ENERGY STAR requirements during 2017 calendar year. There are no separate application forms for these two awards.

Awards for Organizations

ENERGY STAR for New Homes will put forth nominations of organizations that have demonstrated leadership and best practices to reach higher levels of energy efficiency - they are the catalysts of market transformation in the field. There are no separate application forms for these three awards.

The ENERGY STAR name and symbol are administered and promoted in Canada by Natural Resources Canada and are registered in Canada by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
