ENERGY STAR® Canada

Product awards

Organizations that manufacture, sell and/or promote ENERGY STAR certified products, that have signed a Participant Arrangement with ENERGY STAR Canada prior to September 1, 2017 and are in good standing may apply for the following awards:

Manufacturer of the Year / Product Brand Owner of the Year – recognizes a manufacturer / product brand owner (in each of the categories below) that has shown leadership and innovation in developing and marketing ENERGY STAR certified products and raising the profile of ENERGY STAR across Canada.

There is a Manufacturer / Product Brand Owner award for each of the following categories:

  • Appliances
  • Commercial Products
  • Electronics
  • Windows and Doors
  • Heating and Cooling Equipment
  • Lighting

Retailer of the Year – recognizes a retailer that has shown leadership and innovation in developing and marketing ENERGY STAR certified products and raising the profile of ENERGY STAR.

There is a Retailer of the Year award for each of the following categories:

  • Regional
  • National

Utility of the Year – recognizes a utility that has shown leadership and innovation in developing and marketing ENERGY STAR certified products and raising the profile of ENERGY STAR.

There is a Utility of the Year award for each of the following categories:

  • Provincial
  • Regional

Promoter of the Year – ENERGY STAR Most Efficient – recognizes an organization that has successfully manufactured, sold or promoted ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designated products. <

Advocate of the Year – recognizes an organization (e.g. government, non-governmental organization, sector or trade association, health care provider, housing authority, education institution) that has shown leadership and innovation in promoting ENERGY STAR certified products and raising the profile of ENERGY STAR within and/or outside their organization.

Promotional Campaign of the Year – recognizes an organization that has designed and delivered an exceptional promotional campaign (marketing or consumer education) that focussed on one or more ENERGY STAR certified products and/or ENERGY STAR in general.  

Organizations that partnered on a promotional campaign are encouraged to apply as a group.

Recruit of the Year – recognizes an organization that has been a Participant for 2 years or less and has shown leadership and innovation in promoting ENERGY STAR certified products and raising the profile of ENERGY STAR in Canada.

ENERGY STAR Canada will put forth nominations of organizations that have been active promoters of ENERGY STAR since January 2016.

Sustained Excellence – recognizes an organization that has maintained or surpassed its ENERGY STAR commitment and accomplishments of the previous year(s).

ENERGY STAR Canada will put forth nominations of organizations that have been active promoters of ENERGY STAR for at least five years.

New Homes awards

Organizations that build, sell and/or promote ENERGY STAR certified new homes, that have signed a Participant Arrangement or Agreements with ENERGY STAR Canada prior to September 1, 2017 and are in good standing may apply for the following awards:

Builder of the Year – recognizes homebuilder participants that have demonstrated excellence and innovation in building and promoting ENERGY STAR certified homes.

Partner of the Year or Participant of the Year – recognizes organizations that have:
Demonstrated leadership and best practices in implementing an ENERGY STAR new homes program and uses ENERGY STAR tools, strategies and resources to deliver program results while effectively overcoming market barriers so that more ENERGY STAR certified homes are built.

Or

Demonstrated excellence in delivering the ENERGY STAR for New Homes program in the field. Award recipients demonstrate outstanding success in helping builders reach higher levels of energy efficiency – they are the catalysts of market transformation in the field.

Sustained Excellence – recognizes an organization that has contributed to the advancement of ENERGY STAR certified homes through its commitment and accomplishments of the previous year(s).

ENERGY STAR for New Homes will put forth nominations of organizations that have been active promoters of ENERGY STAR for at least five* years.


The ENERGY STAR name and symbol are administered and promoted in Canada by Natural Resources Canada and are registered in Canada by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
