OTTAWA — During this year’s forest fire season, Natural Resources Canada will once again be providing timely, accurate information and easy-to-use tools on the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System website.

At you will find:

  • daily updates on the locations and status of wildland fires across Canada;
  • a weekly summary of fire statistics and danger forecasts, published in the National Wildland Fire Situation Report, that helps federal agencies and other decision-makers provide advice and assistance and enables people living and working in forested areas to make wise decisions about their health and safety;
  • a near–real-time interactive map showing the locations of current fires; and
  • long-range fire weather maps.

The site also provides interesting facts about forest fires in Canada. For example, did you know that lightning strikes cause slightly less than half of all wildland fires in Canada but account for nearly 67 percent of the land burned?

The combination of general and timely information for all of Canada makes the portal a handy one to bookmark for use throughout this year’s forest fire season.
