In 1996 Mr. Ballem became a Member of Prince Edward Island’s (PEI) Legislative Assembly, a position he held for more than 10 years during which he chaired the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Environment. He was subsequently appointed to cabinet as Minister of Health and Social Services and went on to serve as the province’s Attorney General and as Minister of Environment, Energy and Forestry. Highlights of his years in the provincial government include enacting the Renewable Energy Act, developing and building a publicly owned wind farm, negotiating power purchase agreements as well as pursuing renewable energy opportunities in the region.

In addition to his extensive experience in government and the renewable energy sector, Mr. Ballem also has over 20 years experience in the agricultural sector where he served as Chair on two marketing boards in PEI. Mr. Ballem holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Prince Edward Island.
