The Canada–Israel Energy Science and Technology Fund (CIESTF) will support high-quality scientific research partnerships. These collaborations will spur the development of innovative energy technologies and processes to enable the responsible development of unconventional oil and gas resources, including applications to address environmental challenges. They will also consider initiatives on other critical energy sources of interest to both countries.

Over the next three years, Natural Resources Canada will contribute $5 million to the Fund. The Government of Israel will provide funds on a project-by-project basis to initiatives under the CIESTF. As other Canadian and Israeli project sponsors are expected to contribute additional matching funds per project, the anticipated total value of CIESTF-supported research and development (R&D) is expected to be a minimum of $20 million and as much as $40 million.

This initiative will help create jobs and strengthen the economies of both our countries through promoting greater science and technology (S&T) collaboration in energy between Canadian and Israeli universities, research institutes and industry.

The Canada–Israel Energy Science and Technology Fund is managed by the Canada–Israel Industrial R&D Foundation (CIIRDF).

About the Canada–Israel Industrial R&D Foundation (CIIRDF)
The Canada–Israel Industrial R&D Foundation (CIIRDF) stimulates and invests in collaborative research and development between private sector companies in Canada and Israel, with a focus on the commercialization of new technologies.

Established in 1994, and recognized as one of the most successful partnership models of its kind, CIIRDF has financed more than 90 technology partnerships that enabled the joint development and sale of more than 50 products. This has generated hundreds of millions of dollars in economic value for Canadian and Israeli companies over the past decade. This result reinforces how Canada–Israel S&T partnerships can be leveraged to open new markets, generate revenues and bolster international trade for collaborators.

The foundation promotes the benefits of Canada–Israel R&D collaboration; offers a match-making service to companies; and provides early-stage investment for Canada–Israel R&D that leverages the complementary capabilities, expertise and resources of each partner.
