As Minister of Natural Resources, I would like to express my profound sadness on the passing of our friend and colleague, Martin Bergmann, in the tragic plane crash at Resolute Bay Saturday afternoon.

As Director of the Polar Continental Shelf Program, Marty's passion for the north was positively infectious; his legacy with Arctic science and logistics in the north and the PCSP are immeasurable.

He leaves his wife Sheila and four children.

At this time our thoughts and prayers are with Marty's family, his colleagues, as well as the families of the other victims of this tragic accident.

The Honourable Joe Oliver
Minister of Natural Resources
