An Alberta Emerald Award recipient (1996), Dr. Wallace served as Chairman of the Alberta Environmental Monitoring Working Group and more recently as Vice-Chairman of the subsequent Alberta Environmental Monitoring Management Board.
His northern regulatory experience encompasses senior management positions with the Nunavut Resources Corporation, the Northwest Territories Water Board and AGRA Earth and Environmental (now AMEC Americas Ltd). At AGRA, he was involved in major oil and gas operations throughout the former Soviet Union and Russia where he managed major project assignments in conjunction with the World Bank.
Dr. Wallace has held senior management positions with Petro-Canada and CanStar Oil Sands Ltd., and was President of Dominion Ecological Consulting Ltd., during which time he worked in environmental technology applications in northern Canada, Alberta, Venezuela and Ecuador. He has also participated in mediation negotiations involving energy developers, northern Aboriginal communities and governments.
Early in his career, Dr. Wallace worked with the Government of Canada as Senior Biologist with Environment Canada, based in Yellowknife, NWT, with responsibilities for regulatory enforcement throughout the North and subsequently as a Senior Research Scientist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, where he directed baseline studies for the Alberta Oilsands Environmental Research Program. He is published widely in scientific and policy journals and is presently a Senior Fellow of the Canadian Defence and Foreign Affairs Institute.
Dr. Wallace holds a Ph.D. in Aquatic Ecology and Environmental Toxicology from the University of Waterloo.
