James Laurence Balsillie — Biographical Notes

Mr. Balsillie is the co-founder and former co-CEO of Research in Motion (BlackBerry), a position he held from 1992 to 2012. He is the current Chair of the Centre for International Governance Innovation, which he founded in 2001 as an international research institution to identify and develop ideas for global change. He is also the founder of the Balsillie School of International Affairs and the founding Chair of the Canadian International Council. In 2010, Mr. Balsillie was appointed to the United Nations Secretary General’s High-level Panel on Global Sustainability, charged with formulating a new blueprint for a sustainable future. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto, an FCA (Ontario) and an MBA from Harvard University.
